The FUTURE of OASIS

Dear Oasis ladies, partners, family, friends and allies.

Serena

The October meeting will be a significant one for me because it will be ten years since I ventured into the big wide world and tentatively stepped into St George’s Hall. It was a Vicky bangers and mash with waitress service. I met so many wonderful people I am pleased to call my friends.
Over those ten years, many people have remained regular attenders; some have sought our help and support and then moved on, better able to live their lives. But we are still getting many enquiries to our website and new members. Oasis has a vital role to play carrying on the legacy of the wonderful Barbara Ross.
I took over the running of Oasis in October 2019 and my plan was to do so for 5 years. However, things do not always go to plan and so, for purely personal reasons, I will be standing down at the September Oasis meeting. I will, however, continue to support Oasis and attend whenever I can.
The good news is that there is a very able successor waiting in the wings. Lilly has expressed her willingness to pick up the baton, and Theresa, Dee and Amy have expressed their willingness to be the support group. However, I do not want this to appear to be a coup. In the interests of the democratic process, everyone registered on the website has the right to express their opinion, or, indeed, put themselves forward to run Oasis. Please feel free to use the comments box below. I am very pleased to report that Beccie will continue as webmistress doing a great job with the website with the support of Theresa.

One of the approaches to our website was from a group called ‘Consortium’ which acts as an intermediary between the National Lottery and small groups like ourselves. I have submitted a grant application covering a number of our activities and will keep you updated on progress. One criterion was that we needed a constitution. So for the September meeting I will share that with you. In practical terms, it will not change anything that we do, but it is necessary for the grant application.
I hope to see as many of you as possible at King’s Lynn Pride on 20th August and afterwards at St George’s Hall.
Love and best wishes to you all,

Serena
