Hope you don’t mind me contacting you. I’m getting in touch about the below study as we’re very keen to hear from as wide a range of LGBT+ people as possible, especially those who can be disproportionately marginalised and/or who are often less represented in existing LGBT+ research, e.g. people of colour/BAME folk. We’re a group of researchers, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, looking to improve the experiences of LGBT+ people having to deal with the benefits system, hence the research… Any assistance/visibility you can give to the research would be very much appreciated. We would of course be happy to share the research findings with yourselves, and happy to answer any questions etc.
This is an ambitious, large-scale study, so we’d really appreciate any assistance in sharing far and wide!
We are currently looking for volunteers who are:
• LGBT+ (including but not limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or trans people)
• Aged 18+
• Claiming (or have claimed in the last 8 years) welfare benefits (including child benefit)*, tax credits and/or a state pension
• Based in England, Scotland or Wales.
If this is you, please get in touch! We’re particularly keen to hear from people of colour/BAME folks. We are able to offer a £20 voucher as a thank you to everyone taking part in an interview. The conversation will probably last around an hour and can be at a time and (online or physical) place of your choice (covid-19 permitting). To find further information click on this link. If you’d like to take part, or have any questions, please get in touch by clicking on this link.
- Welfare benefits can be any benefit you have received from the Department for Work and Pensions, Job Centre Plus, your local council, or Social Security Scotland.
Thank you – hope to hear from you!
Best wishes, Eleanor
