On Friday 30th June 2023, 21 members of the Oasis Horticulture and Gardening Society visited the wonderful East Ruston Old Vicarage Garden to celebrate an
Oasis milestone
.
The many delights of East Ruston exemplifies the expression ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’. In writing this little review; it is impossible for me to do justice to the riot of colour that is the Old Vicarage Garden. My meagre language skills are totally inadequate. I feel certain that the members of our little gang will return many times, particularly to view how the garden changes as the seasons pass; and if you have not visited, I urge all our readers to make a pilgrimage to this little plant oasis, particularly whilst the sun shines.
As ever our visit combined a natter over a cuppa and a relaxed stroll around the grounds, during which we were treated to watching Alan Grey, aided by his cat and dogs and some of his gardeners, working hard weeding and replanting. The workload in the garden must be enormous and the job list infinite. After the effort of watching other people grafting away, it was time for afternoon tea, during which we raised a glass to Barbara Ross and 35 years of her Oasis legacy. We are very lucky, lucky, lucky to have had Barbara in our lives.
On our travels I was able to speak to Alan and he was kind enough to sign our guide book. Garden fans please note; we will be raffling the book very soon.
Where will Oasis pop up next? A little clue; it might involve a railway and a vintage dress or two on August 5th. Just for now, my lips are sealed.
