July Oasis – Good Times

Good friends, good food, good times. What more could anybody want from life?

Good Friends. Saturday, June 15th, 2023 proved to be a rather blustery day. However, the weather didn’t deter The Oasis Ensemble from making their way to Oasis HQ. Geri encountered a few challenges on her journey due to a fallen power line. Her route involved some rallycross around Beccles and the Suffolk countryside. Undaunted, Geri persisted and eventually found her way. That’s the Oasis spirit, we don’t do daunted!

We welcomed Jacqui and Penny to their first meetings and we christened Ryann. Also, we were delighted to say Hello to new friends and allies to our growing community, Hello Lemon and Ben it was brilliant to spend the evening with you.

Good Food. We always love to welcome members home whom we haven’t seen for a while. None more so than Vicky, especially when she prepares the food. Eating together has always been a cornerstone of our monthly meetings, and over the years Vicky has worked super hard to provide delicious fare. Saturday was no exception as we tucked into a delightful summer salad, including potato wedges to die for. A big Thank you Vicky from all of us.

Good times. Lemon introduced themselves, talking about their journey of self-discovery. Many of the Oasis generation are children of the 50s and 60s, growing up in a very binary world. Perhaps, whilst we all know what it is like to not fit in, Lemon’s insight was so very valuable in understanding what it feels like to be non-binary in 2023 Britain. Lemon was a wonderfully engaging, funny, inspiring, and interesting speaker, with quite a story to tell and an exciting future ahead of them.

To close the meeting, our thoughts turned to make-up. Lemon led us through an interesting discussion, where they informed us about their preferred palettes, brushes, and products. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the conversation. Below is a little summary of recommended products,

At Oasis, friendship is everything. One of the ways that our members show friendship is by their contribution to setting up and breaking down the meeting. Special thanks go to our washer-uppers Anna, Joy (Joy, you are so kind), and Rachel. Amy for collecting the money, and to Jaqui and Andrea for keeping me company until we were ready to shut up shop. Thank you to everybody who did their bit. I always feel sad when I lock the door; it marks the end of another meeting, but I can always reflect on a fab evening and look forward to next month. August 19th, pop it in your diary.

What I love most about our Oasis meetings is the opportunity to meet up with old friends and make new ones. People often ask me what we talk about at our meetings, my reply is anything, everything and make-up; our group is full of interesting people, who are living rich and fascinating lives.

Friends, old ones, new ones, loved ones, but at Oasis, never neglected ones
