There is no summer break here at the Oasis Head Office, and our dedicated team of reporters, undercover agents, snoops, whistle-blowers and general busy-bodies have been hard at work to bring items of interest to your attention. Firstly some dates for your diaries ……

Saturday 12th August – Trans man Harry Nicholas, author of the book ‘A Trans Man Walks Into A Gay Bar’, is giving a talk with a Q&A session hosted by Ezra Woodger at the St Giles Hotel in Norwich, starting at 7:00 pm. Tickets are £5.00 and are available through the Amnesty International Bookshop in Norwich, or you can pay at the door. I plan to attend, so I hope to see you there.
Before August 28th – listen to the BBC Radio 4 play ‘The Venice Conundrum’ on BBC Sounds or the BBC website. The play is a mash-up of the work of the Trans pioneer Jan Morris, combining her two most famous books. The role of Jan Morris is played by the local artist Edalia Day. Click here to access the play; it’s very well done and very insightful into Jan’s life, perhaps reflecting our own.
Saturday 21st October – our very own Serena will be sharing her ‘Lost Photograph’ story with the Norfolk LGBT History Society at the Norfolk & Norwich Millennium Library in the second floor in glass meeting room at 11:00am. It will be fantastic we could support Serena, and if you don’t know, the ‘Lost Photograph’ is wonderful true story from Serena’s life.
Talking of the Norfolk LGBT History Society, you might like to know that the society curates LGBT+ History Month in Norfolk and fosters LGBT+ history awareness throughout the year at Norwich Library. They hold monthly meetings on a range of subjects that may be of interest to Oasis members. A flyer for the society’s events for the remainder of 2023 can be found by clicking here. Perhaps I could also draw your attention to the event on 30th September when Stevie will be talking about the Norwich Pride Patchwork Quilt, which is a wonderous artefact, and worth viewing.
Age UK have brought together information and advice for older LGBT+ people. They have published a booklet full of useful information that help you understand your rights and make sure they’re always respected. This link will take you to the appropriate page on the Age UK website and you can access the LGBT+ booklet here.
Time to go now, I have finally dried out from our MNR adventure, and my weather app is telling me that the sun if finally shining. Hurrah; Here comes the sun.
Take care and happy holidays.
