An Extra Special Day at Bayfield Hall

Our visit to Bayfield Hall Sculpture Trail on Friday 27th October was an extra special day, not just because of the sculptures and art on display, not just because of the lovely cosy café with delicious coffee and food, not just because of a refreshing stroll in the woods and garden in the sunshine, not just because of spending the day with fabulous people, any one of the above would have made it a special day but the combination of these all just made it, extra.

For an Oasis outing, meeting in the café first is obligatory, Serena, Lilly & Lesley, Andrea and myself Theresa seated ourselves comfortably in the cosy little Natural Surroundings café/shop enjoying the warmth from the log burner, hot drinks and cake all round, could have stayed there all day but we knew there was more enjoyment to be found outside.

With the aid of a map we wandered around the grounds admiring the sculptures and artwork, lots of photos taken, Andrea was in her element with her camera, sometimes we found ourselves at the end of her lens with random poses. The unexpected bright sunshine during the afternoon I’m sure helped make some great photos and lifted our spirits, was such a relief from the endless rainy days we seem to be having.

While viewing and discussing each sculpture it was clear we all had different tastes which is how it should be, art is a very personal thing.

My personal favourite was an angel in an old chapel ruin blending in with the ivy, quite atmospheric complete with a hidden speaker and soundtrack, though a tree with natural autumn colours came a close second.

I think we managed to view everything there was to see by mid afternoon then headed back to the café for some late lunch, again very comfortable and cosy, I believe the café is open all year round as part of the Wildflower garden nursery, worth a visit any time you’re travelling near Holt, North Norfolk

Café closes at 4:00pm so wanting to maximise the day we visited the nearby antiques shop, had a browse and also chatted with the event curator Sarah Cannell, she also had some of her artwork on display, maybe we’ll meet her again, perhaps on the Raveningham sculpture trail? Will keep an eye out for this event next year.

Looking forward to seeing more of you joining us on our next Oasis outing.
