November Oasis – We Can Do Magic!

In the enchanted land of Oasis, how do you turn raw ingredients into a delicious meal in our tiny kitchen? How do you turn a stroke of the pen into beautiful script and works of art? How do you manage when things go wrong? You simply wave your wand to apply a little touch of that Oasis Old Magic! Which is exactly what we did on Saturday 18th November 2023.

Sausage and Mash has been an Oasis tradition since we can remember and Rachel has honoured this piece of Oasis history for a number of years now. Anyone who has gone ten rounds with the oven, will know just how much hard work is required to came out on top! Rachel, the Sorceress of the Culinary Realm producing a splendid meal of sausage, mash, peas (yes Green peas Rachel) and onion gravy. Just like than….Thank You Rachel💘.

As the last sips of gravy and custard mingled in a tantalizing dance (yuk!), the enchantment persisted. Enter Serena, the Calligraphy Conjurer, wielding her pen as a wand . With tales of the art’s evolution from mere writing to the exquisite dance of calligraphy, Serena, a Norfolk Scribe for eight years, shared her passion for transforming calligraphy into an art form.

Under the spell of Serena’s guidance, our members delved into the enchanting world of ’roundhand’ or ‘foundational hand.’ A magical debt of thanks to Rhian, who bestowed upon us sheets adorned with guidelines for the practical session.

Serena concluded her spellbinding discourse by unveiling ‘Taking Flight,’ a masterpiece that transcended its surface beauty, revealing an allegory of her life. A box of pinned butterflies, seemingly simple, yet steeped in layers of symbolism and emotion, left us spellbound. Our hearts extend their gratitude to Serena for her hard work and preparation in weaving the threads of her talk and materials into a magical tapestry. That, dear Oasisers, is true magic!

Serena also treated our eyes to an exhibition of her work. Don’t worry if you missed it, Serena and our other Oasis creatives will have another opportunity to display their work during 2024.

💘 In the enchanted realm of Oasis life, a Saturday hiccup became an opportunity for communal sorcery. Thanks to Tremendous Tina, Magical Michelle, Resourceful Rhian, Joyous Jane, Nurturing Nicole, the Oasis troupe united, radiating a special sprinkle of magic dust to get us through 💘.

Amidst this magical rendezvous, our November meeting was part a busy time. During the day, Serena and I ventured to the LGBT+ History Group’s workshop on Section 28. A hearty recommendation echoes for the History Group and its enlightening meetings, reminding us that understanding our past, can guide us through the misty trails of the future. On Monday, November 20th, Oasis commemorated the Transgender Day of Remembrance with a coffee morning at the Mind REST Hub. A morning of unity, where our community intertwined threads of love, building a perfect picture of togetherness.

Stay enchanted, and with much love, stay healthy and please look after yourselves. See you next on Saturday 16th December. Be good.
Serena and Lilly
