December Oasis – Auld Lang Oasis

2024 has been a wonderfully busy year for Oasis, and true to form, we ended the year with a hectic week. On Tuesday of December 10th 2024, a happy band of twenty-nine Oasismas’s assembled at The Old Feathers, for our transitional Oasis Christmas Meal. Come Saturday, the 14th December 2024, twenty-plus Oasisyulers met for an evening of carols led by Claire and Jules, quizzing, raffling, friendship and good food. Carols from King’s it wasn’t, but great fun with a certain Christmassy je ne sais quoi, putting smiles on our faces.

Let’s delve into the numbers of our Oasis year. A whopping 185 subscribers follow our website, an increase in 10% in the last year. Our meetings witnessed the presence of 49 Oasis members, with 12 embarking on their inaugural Oasis meeting. Not to forget our 8 partners plus the 26 friends and family who graced us with their company, bringing our grand total to 83 attendees. The car parking is going to be a challenge in 2025! Never forget, once an Oasiser, you are an Oasiser forever and you are always be welcome at our gatherings. Don’t be a stranger in 25.

This year, Oasis attended Pride events in Bungay, Beccles, Dereham, Norwich, Lowestoft, Kings Lynn and the Norwich TransPride Picnic, plus other events in Norwich organised by QueerFest. One long wonderful summer and one very cold wet Dereham!

Oasis made 10 visits to places of interest across the region, with the most popular being our visit to The Mid Norfolk Railway. Theresa our Queen of weather usual parted to clouds to ensure memorable days and fab photographs.

Oasis is so well named. In a world spinning ever more wildly, Oasis offers a cherished respite, a momentary escape into a realm of friendship, fun, grace and shimmer. The Old Feathers, a sanctuary of tranquillity, treated us to a delectable feast featuring the likes of Timothea Turkey, Stevie Soup, Alan Partridge, Betsy Bass, and Vinny Vegan Option. A fun evening and a chance to wear something special. We’ve already booked for 25!

As usual our Saturday meeting was a whirlwind, a frenzy of activity with our carol singing lead by our dazzling group of tuneful choristers. Followed by our mega raffle with prizes claimed left, right and centre, which raised £66 for Crisis At Christmas and a rapid fire Christmas Quiz where everyone was a winner!

Amidst the laughter, singing, the members feast, and the cake and mince pies, a heartfelt thank you echoes for the set-up and clean-up crews. Your unwavering support is truly appreciated, making our Oasis moments even more memorable. Cheers to a year filled with joy, respect, kindness, camaraderie, friendship and love; the simple ingredients that combine to make the magic that is Oasis!

Finally a big thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of Oasis 2024; we’ve a had an amazing year. If you have enjoyed this year half as much as I have, you’ve experienced a brilliant time. To all our Oasis members, our partners and our friends, we wish you a happy and healthy New Year. I look forward to seeing you again of 18th January 2025.
Much Love.

Auld Lang Oasis
To the tune of the traditional melody

Should old hopes fade and dreams run dry,
We’ll lift each other high,
For in this place our hearts combine,
Beneath the Anglian sky.

Chorus:
Let’s raise a glass to friendship true,
To paths we walk as one,
At Oasis, dreams renew,
Together, we’ve begun.

Through trials faced and joys we share,
We’ll light the darkest days,
With open arms and hearts that care,
We’ll find our steadfast way.

Chorus:
Let’s raise a glass to friendship true,
To paths we walk as one,
At Oasis, dreams renew,
Together, we’ve begun.

So here’s to all who’ve joined the call,
Who’ve made this space a home,
At Oasis, love unites us all,
Where no one walks alone.

Chorus:
Let’s raise a glass to friendship true,
To paths we walk as one,
At Oasis, dreams renew,
Together, we’ve begun.
