How to defy the aging process? Set your satnav to Oasis Land once a month. On Saturday 15th February 2025 a full house followed this wise advice, whilst laughing at old Mother Time in the face and celebrating old age. Forever young, that’s our motto. Being an Oasisager of is like have a big monthly slurp from the elixir of life. The riggers of the aging process can have an impact, either on ourselves and our loved ones, however help is at hand with Age UK Norwich and The Inclusive Norwich Partnership. Both are wonderful supporters of older folk. We found out more from a excellent presentation Denise Troughton of The INP and it’s fab to know that we and our family members are not alone.

Under the umbrella of Age Friendly Norwich, Age UK focus on providing support and opportunities, targeting and tackling inequalities, advocating the use of Age Friendly Principles and being a champion for people aged 50+. This can include clubs and trips, health coaching plus information and advice. Powerful stuff!
Oasiserama loves a quiz, and Denise set us some agebending questions, with Nicole claiming the prize. Whilst Lauren B scoped the 2nd of the evening prize from Lilly’s agedefying teasers and started to plot her way to beating 39.62 secs for the 100m World Record held by Canadian Julia Hawkins, for 100+ aged female runners. Keep up the training Lauren B, you’ve got more than a few years to go!
Of course there is nothing old about the fish from the local chippy, and après our enlightening session, our hungry souls indulged in a feast featuring fish and chips, pies, mushy peas, spring rolls, battered sausages, eggs de pickle, red & brown sauces, salt and vinegar ….. hungry yet? Followed by decadent cheesecake and cake and custard …. definitely hungry now! Special thanks to Theresa FCC (fish and chip champion), Penny The Oasis mascot and our housekeeping team for rounding up a perfect evening. I’m please to report there was very little waste. Sorry Penny.
Long Shot Kick de Bucket. Why? Because they didn’t come to Oasis and eat F&C’s. Beware, I feel a quiz question coming on ….. see you in March.
Love

PS Age UK have a wonderfully comprehensive guide for the LQBT Community, full of useful advice on health, rights and tips on well-being. We also have printed copies available from the Oasis Library.
PPS Long Shot was apparently a noted race horse in Jamaica, that died in the middle of a race, celebrated by The Pioneers in the reggae classic of the same name.
