On the Buses with Oasis

The East Anglian (Trans)port Museum near Lowestoft has become a favourite venue for an Oasis day out and our visit on Sunday 28th September did not disappoint.

I was joined by Andrea, Jaqui, Serena, Lilly & Lesley, Billie, Lorraine and Penny, we all met in the terminus café for drinks and chat before deciding what to do and see first.

Once refreshed we headed out to look at the static museum exhibits, lots of old interesting cars, bikes, buses and various machinery. Inside one of the sheds were vendors selling transport related collectibles but I don’t think any of us needed a new die cast model. More paraffin anyone?

While walking around the site you had to keep alert to vehicles using the roadways, there were trams, trolleybuses and old London taxis running around the site full of smiley passengers. Was lovely to experience this living museum, I likened it to being inside a full sized model train set complete with people, props and vehicles rumbling and screeching around the roadway and tracks.

Eventually we arrived at the site “Chapel Road” railway station just in time to board and take a ride up and down the line, a fun way to see parts of the site not accessible on foot.

Time for lunch, there were other food vendors as well as the café, some chose pie and mash, some sandwiches, some just chips, nothing fancy but was a lovely outdoor lunch all together sitting in the sunshine.

After lunch we boarded a tram to take a ride up and down the site experiencing the sights and sounds of how folk used to travel, we even had our tickets punched by the conductor during the ride. Next we all boarded a trolleybus which took us around the site circuit a few times, a much quieter and smoother ride thanks to the wheels having tyres rather than the tram’s steel wheels on tracks.

Didn’t see a Reg Varney lookalike but the volunteer staff were certainly enjoying the day, authentically dressed and playing their roles with a passion.
