November Oasis 2025 – The wonders of the RNLI

Saturday 15th November 2025, Oasis was delighted to welcome Jacqui Palmer of the RNLI Henry Blogg Museum in Cromer. In a fascinating presentation, Jacqui was able to tell us about some of the history of The Cromer Lifeboat Station and the remarkable life of Coxswain Blogg.

Henry Blogg (1876–1954) was one of the most decorated and celebrated lifeboat coxswains in the history of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Born in Cromer, Norfolk, he dedicated more than 50 years of his life to saving others at sea, serving on the Cromer lifeboats from 1894 and becoming coxswain in 1909. Over his long career, Blogg led dozens of perilous rescues in some of the most treacherous conditions along the North Sea coast. His outstanding bravery earned him the RNLI Gold Medal (the institution’s highest honour) three times, along with four Silver Medals and numerous other awards. Known for his calm leadership, exceptional seamanship, and unwavering courage, Henry Blogg helped rescue more than 870 people and became a national hero, leaving behind a legacy that still inspires lifeboat crews today.

Our November Oasis is not complete without our traditional Bangers and Mash. This year we were treated to Serena’s Spectacular, Scrupulous, Super SSSSizzlers, complete with Marvellous Mustardy Mash and Perfect Petit Pois. Our tradition remains upheld; thank you, Serena, you did us proud.

Generosity is another Oasis tradition, and our raffle raised £60 for the RNLI. The star prize was Kitty’s mystery package, for which Joanna was our lucky winner. Lucky indeed; once the box was opened, a wonderful hamper of Christmas treats was revealed. Thank you, Kitty, and all our prize donators, including Kitty’s partner in innuendo, Janet. We love that you are willing to travel such a long way to be part of our Oasis family.

Finally, we gave a big Oasis welcome to new members Robbie and Mae, and to Adrian Ramsay MP. It turned out that Adrian knew our Barbara from the early days of the Green Party in Norwich, and he spoke very movingly of Barbara and her achievements.

🎅🏽 Time slips by so quickly, and wow it’s nearly time to think about Christmas. Next month’s meeting is on Saturday 13th December (**** 2nd Saturday Alert!! ****), when we will start with a brief AGM. 🎅🏽

Much Love
Lilly
