DON’T DREAM IT BE IT

In 1973 in a tiny room at the top of the Royal Court Theatre in London’s Sloane Square 8 actors and 4 musicians set out to have 3 weeks of fun with a musical written by Richard O’Brien, that features a transvestite alien who had decided to build to build a beautiful creature for his own pleasure.

Well 50 years later it’s still having a great deal of fun as the world’s favourite rock and roll musical, the legendary Rocky Horror Show.

Anything goes, dress as outrageous as you want in this gender bending musical. People dress as Janet, Brad, Frank N Furter, Magenta, Rocky, Columbia or whoever they want.

Some time in the dim and distant past, around 2016, 31 Oasis ladies and friends visited the Theatre Royal for the Rocky Horror Show. Some of those who still receive the posts may remember the outing. As I remembered, it was an excellent production as usual.

Roll on nearly 20 years later on Friday 1st August Vicky, Katie, Jules, Claire and myself attended the evening performance of The Rocky Horror Show dressed in Magenta lookaĺikes as 4 maids and a very alluring Vicky in a see through outfit.

We parked, at which point Katie needed to visit a chemist. It was an emergency, and something I hadn’t bargained on roaming the city accompanying Katie on her quest to find a chemist down St Stephen Road. Katie found what she needed at the Tesco store at the bottom of the street, and we both made our way to the Theatre Royal restaurant.

So if you happened to be in Norwich that evening you would have seen two French maids mincing down St Stephen’s Road. Surprisingly there were no adverse comments and it was quite liberating!

After a lovely meal at the theatre restaurant we took our seats to watch the show. Jason Donovan was playing the lead role as Frank n Furter in a full house, and the show was as good as always. Although Jason had changed a lot since I saw him in “Neighbours” all those years ago!!

Come up to the lab and see what’s on the slab!
