October Oasis – All Is Well.

On Saturday 17 October 2026, Oasis was delighted to welcome the charming Spencer McCormack of Reed Wellbeing into our happy throng for an evening with a healthy twist!
Our personable guest introduced us to the free NHS Health Checks available to everyone aged 40 and over. As the years gather around us, the risk of developing certain health conditions, including high blood pressure, heart disease and Type 2 diabetes, can increase. An NHS Health Check offers a valuable opportunity to take stock, spot potential risks early and discover how a few positive changes might help keep us fighting fit.
But Spencer didn’t simply sprinkle a little health wisdom into our evening and disappear into the night! Generous with both his time and expertise, he stayed with us throughout the evening, carrying out blood pressure and cholesterol checks for many of our members.
It was wonderful to see so many of our Oasis family taking the opportunity to give their health a little extra attention. And the good news? Our group appears to have come through its health MOT with flying colours!
A huge thank you to Spencer for bringing his knowledge, enthusiasm and care to Oasis. Who says looking after ourselves can’t be part of a thoroughly enjoyable evening?

As the autumn evenings draw in, we all love a bit of comfort food. Appropriately, we were treated us to a hearty Hungarian Beef Goulash, a creamy Chicken Stroganoff, and a delicious vegetarian bean casserole. All were served with fluffy rice, tender carrots and peas; food to warm the cockles of our hearts!
With pudding consisting of apple crumble topped of with custard, it’s clear that at Oasis, we certainly knew how to appreciate a good dinner We came hungry and left happy; as we do every month.

Prevention is better than cure. So, dear readers, it’s time to listen to your Auntie Lilly! We may not be able to turn back the clock, but there’s plenty we can do to give ourselves the best possible chance of staying fit, healthy and fabulous as the years roll by. Eat well, enjoy a balanced diet, get out and about, and exercise regularly. Keep an eye on your salt intake, cut back on refined sugars, and remember that a little moderation can go a long way. Make time for fresh air, a good night’s sleep and, just as importantly, the friendship of your Oasis family.

We hope to see you all at our 2nd evening with the amazing RNLI on Saturday 21st November 2026. To celebrate the RNLI, we will be holding our customary raffle; so you generous people of Oasis please bring any raffle prizes with you and of course you purse full of loose change.
Love
Lilly xxx
