Oasis Gets All Arty – Autumn Trips

Whilst browsing the extensive reference library here at Oasis Acres, I came across the work of the popular 19th-century French thinker and philosopher Victor Cousin.
Now, apparently, Victor, or should I say Vic, as he was known to his philosophy chums, created the expression l’art pour l’art; art for art sake! Of course, Wilde had something to say about the matter, and there was I thinking it was just a song by 10cc. Nice one Vic.
Well, whatever its philosophical origins, we have two trips coming up over the next few weeks that definitely have l’art pour Oasis sake as their theme.
Read on, my petite culture vultures.

One of our Norwich treasures is David Shenton.
On Friday 25th September at midday please join Oasis for a trip to Norwich Castle to see a retrospective exhibition of David’s work, Kindly Ease The Tension.
This fascinating exhibition charts David’s lifetime of work, chronicling LGBTQ+ life and the politics and protest surrounding it through the decades. Primarily a cartoonist, the prolific David has used a variety of media to tell his stories, from cartoons and illustrations to paintings, textiles, knitting and larger-scale installations.
David has an amazing funny bone, and in his hands humour becomes a powerful weapon. His work manages to be funny, warm, thought-provoking and, at times, wonderfully cheeky, while never losing sight of the history and struggles behind it.
While a ticket to the exhibition is relatively expensive, it also gives you access to the recently remodelled Norwich Castle, which is also a must see.

Note: Don’t forget that you can save 10% on the entry fee to the castle of £17 by booking at least one day in advance online using this link. We suggest a buying a ticket for 2:00 pm. If you intend to join us, please use the reply form below –

In recent years, our Oasis visit to the Bayfield Hall Sculpture Trail has become an essential part of the Oasis calendar. What draws us back? The eclectic collection of sculptures, of course, but also the most delightful little café.
The café is a wonderful place to meet, chat and refuel after all that art. After all, admiring sculptures is hungry work! Meet you there.
Please come and join us on Friday 9th October 2026 at 11:00 pm; the full address is Bayfield Hall, Bayfield, Norfolk, NR25 7JN.
Tickets can be bought in advance at £8 here, or on the day. Please use the reply form below to let us know you are joining us on the trail.
