Although Christmas for many people starts when the outside decorations go up, or the visit to Thursford (see the post), or receiving cards or the school Nativity play, My Christmas always begins with my annual visit to see Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker ballet.
I can remember as a child going to see the Nutcracker at the Festival Hall in London. I think from that moment onwards I fell in love with the enchanting story, and the beautifully classical and romantic tutus. Do you think it’s too late for me to apply to the Royal Ballet School to be a prima ballerina!
Most years it’s a simultaneous live broadcast beamed into the cinema from Royal Opera House in London with Darcy Bussell interviewing the characters in the leading roles in the interval.
This year, with Covid it was a recorded live show, socially distanced. One of the great things about going to the cinema now, is you’ve got space on either side of you for your coat and refreshments and there’s no one directly in front to ruin your view. This year I watched it in Cromer with 5 other people. Even in the cinema we were sticking to the rule of 6!
I just wanted, from Oasis, to wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year. I know some of you are ” out” and will be spending it together with your family in your preferred gender, but spare a thought for others, who are still struggling and in conflict with their identity.
Please follow the rules sensibly and have a safe festive season and see you all sometime in the New Year.

Thank you, Beccie.
Nutcracker, tutus. Hmm? Is this a theme developing for an Oasis meeting later this year?
Can I add my Christmas Greetings and wish you all the best Christmas you can have in these very difficult circumstances. We will get through it and, as Vera Lynn sang, We’ll Meet Again. Hang on in there.
Love and best wishes to you all.
