On Monday 18th December I was joined by Phyllis, Vicky, Jules, Claire and Pam for the last event of the Oasis calendar for 2023, the LGBT Carol Service at St John the Baptist Church in Norwich.
The weather was favourable and yet again it was a full church. The LGBT service has been running for many years apart from a short pause during Covid.
Its a great pity that there isn’t a larger cohort from Oasis as there has been for many years before Covid. In fact one of our ladies, Lana, was even invited to recited one of the readings in many of the services. Unfortunately due to ill health she has had to put her clothes back into the closet for good!
Afterwards we met old friends and acquaintances while refreshments were served. It was lovely to reconnect with Julie Innes with her husband and daughter. She was involved many years ago with Oasis when Norfolk police were looking to integrate with the LGBT community. We also met Shirl Marshall and Roger Rayner, great friends of the late Barbara Ross.
As we head towards 2024 it only leaves me as the webmistress to thank Lilly and her happy band of helpers for the wonderful range of activities she has tirelessly put together in 2023. Your first task for 2024 is to check this page and pencil in the Oasis dates (always the 3rd Saturday of each month).
